Bridges at Appletree Dental Surgery
Gaps caused by missing teeth not only affect your smile and self-confidence, but they can also lead to issues with your bite and ability to chew. It’s important to have them replaced as soon as possible once the socket has healed and bone remodelling has taken place. A dental bridge is often the ideal solution.
Dental bridges (or fixed bridges) are simply one way in which teeth can be replaced. Just as their name suggests, they literally bridge the gaps that are caused by a missing tooth or teeth.
The dental bridge itself usually consists of two crowns, one on each side of the gap and a false tooth or teeth which sits in-between. A bridge can be placed on both natural teeth or dental implants as they act as an anchor, attaching to the bridge and securing it firmly in place.
Before commencing treatment, your dentist will discuss the different types of bridges that are available and which they think will be best for you. They can be made from a wide range of materials, including gold, alloys, and porcelain, and the decision is often based on the position of the missing tooth, the intended aesthetic appearance and the overall cost of the procedure.
